A Fable on Justice

owl

A pair of parrots were passing by an abandoned village.  Mrs Parrot said, “I wonder if it was war or calamity which drove everyone away.”

Mr Parrot said, “Perhaps an Owl passed by.”

An Owl was flying by and heard this, so he invited the couple for dinner. The couple agreed on the Owl’s insistence, for to refuse dinner would have been very rude.

After dinner, the Owl stopped Mrs Parrot from leaving, “Where are you off to, my dear wife?”

Mr Parrot became furious. “What do you mean? She’s my wife!”

They began to argue. Eventually, they agreed to take the matter to court and the owl and the parrot both promised each other to follow whatever the court decided.

The case was presented, and the judge declared that evidence suggested that Mrs Parrot was the Owl’s wife.

The Owl then told Mr Parrot, “Take your wife home.”

Mr Parrot was shocked. “But the court decree?”

“The Court declared her to be my wife. But you & I both know the truth. It is not an owl passing by which ruins a village; it is the lack of justice,” said the Owl, and flew away.
