Ten Myths about Jinns

Jinns

Different cultures adopt different beliefs about the Otherworld. Whilst Muslims all around the world believe in Jinns, each culture has its own unique beliefs and superstitions about Jinns. Ten myths about Jinns from Pakistani oral tradition:

They love meetha! (It is certainly very difficult to resist Gulab Jamun or Rasmalaii, can we blame them?

Jinns can stretch out their limbs – it is almost as if they are made of elastic. There are many stories of Jinns in human disguise exposing their identity because they just decide to reach out across a room.

Another myth about Jinns is that they do not blink.

The Jinns do not forgive – should you intentionally or accidentally harm or kill a Jinn, it will be a blood feud until they have had their revenge.

Shaking hands with Jinns can burn you.

The palm of a Jinn does not have lines like we do. Like us, the Jinns do not possess the superpower of simply “knowing” what is happening somewhere, anywhere, unless they are present at the time.

The Jinns sit and talk about us, just as we talk about them. Imagine a Jinn asking another to spill the tea about a person!

Jinns do not forget favours. If you are kind to a Jinn, you will always be repaid with kindness.
