One of South Asia’s greatest Muslim Queens was Sultana Khadija of Maldives.
When her father, Sultan Salah al-Din Salih Albendjaly, passed away, she married Vizier Jamal, after he deposed and executed her brother Ahmad.
As the Queen, she issued orders in her name and Friday khutbahs were also said in her honour.
Jamal then deposed Khadija and stripped her of her powers. She retaliated by assassinating him the same year and took back the throne which was rightfully hers.
She then remarried, another Vizier, Abdullah, who forced her to abdicate and usurped her throne.
He ruled for three years before she dealt with him like her previous husband, and had him assassinated.
She then took the throne for the third time and reigned for three long, peaceful decades in which Maldives prospered and thrived.
