The Fox and the Crow

Once upon a time, in a forest in Punjab, there lived a clever crow. One day, he found a piece of roti and flew up to a high tree to enjoy his meal. As he began to eat, a greedy fox happened to pass by.

The fox was hungry and wanted to snatch the roti from the crow. With a cunning smile, the fox decided to flatter the crow. "Oh, dear Mr. Crow," she began, "you are such a beautiful bird! I've never seen a bird with feathers as shiny and radiant as yours. And I’m sure your voice must be as lovely as your appearance. Won’t you sing a song for me?"

The crow, being smart, knew that the fox was only trying to trick him to get the roti. So, he stayed silent. But the fox was persistent. She continued, "Oh, come on, just one song! The whole forest will enjoy it."

The clever crow thought for a moment and decided to play along. Holding the roti firmly in his beak, he cleared his throat and said, "Wait a moment, let me clear my voice first."

The fox wagged her tail excitedly, her mouth watering at the thought of the roti. She eagerly waited for the crow to start singing. But instead, the crow tossed the roti onto another branch and let out a loud cough, startling the fox.

Then the crow said, "Dear Ms. Fox, flattery might work on some, but I’m too smart to fall for your tricks."

With that, the crow grabbed the roti, flew away, and left the fox standing there, humiliated and empty-handed.

Notes: The story seems to be an adaptation of a tale from Aesop's Fables. The original story is very similar, only that the crow finds cheese instead of roti!
